Why should we choose Mini-Skool?

There are so many reasons!! The first one would be that in 2019, we celebrated 50 years of serving our communities and being the best in childcare! Our teachers are the best in the business and truly give their all to each child every day! Another main reasons you should pick Mini-Skool is for our one-of-a-kind educational programs starting at age three. Mini-Skool’s educational programs are like no other in the industry.

How are Mini-Skool’s educational programs designed?

Our programs are carefully designed and put together by professional teachers with many years experience in the industry and are unique to Mini-Skool. These programs are age appropriate and teaches reading, writing, math concepts and so much more. Our experience tells us that children are capable, competent and ready to learn.

Prior to the age of three our infants, toddlers and two-year-olds are all beginning their educational journey to the preschool rooms where formal education starts. Each day is a learning experience for children as they engage in dramatic, sensory and creative opportunities during play. Learning about the world around them through their senses is key to growth. All of our programs complement each other. It is wonderful for our teachers to watch a child progress from registration as an infant through “graduation” from Senior Kindergarten with so much knowledge and ready to start grade one. We feel privileged to be a part of their journey!

How do Mini-Skool’s education programs compare with Montessori?

Most parents of preschoolers have heard of “Montessori Schools”. Unfortunately, the word “Montessori” can be used in some schools, which are not necessarily using Maria Montessori’s method of teaching. We do include many teaching methods of Maria Montessori in our programs. We do not, however, follow all of her methods as we believe that new studies in Early Child hood have provided us with so many new approaches to education such as phonics, computer programming and self regulation techniques and we have incorporated the best of many different teaching approaches. How does Mini-Skool's Full Day Kindergarten program compare with the school system?

We encourage parents to consider if a Full Day Kindergarten in their local school is suitable for their child. Mini-Skool’s Full Day Kindergarten offers lower staff-to-child ratios and fewer children in each class. Our staff have experience working with younger children and our programs are more advanced than existing school-based programs. Children also have the benefit of rest time and we offer extended hours with consistent, reliable staff all year round.

Do Mini-Skool teachers have formal training?

All of Mini-Skool staff meet and often exceed the necessary qualifications required for licensed child care centers. We support our teachers with training, resources and freedom to create unique learning experience. We provide many opportunities for our teachers to share ideas and grow professionally through both in-house and external workshops. Our staff retention is very high and that says it all! All Mini-Skool staff have had security checks and have met our high standards before being employed by Mini-Skool.

Does Mini-Skool have any intentions of bringing in web cams?

Absolutely not. We feel that web cams conflict with our views on privacy for each child and the staff working within our centers. We also feel that these cameras can give parents misleading information as the image they are viewing is usually a time-delayed snapshot that does not provide any context about what is shown. Parents are welcome to visit anytime as all of our classrooms have viewing windows. This enables parents to come and visit without interrupting the program.

What is Mini-Skool’s approach to teach children self-regulation?

We encourage children to be independent and promote problem solving or calming areas for quiet reflection. This area is equipped with books, paper, puppets etc so that the child can communicate his or her feelings in the best way they feel they are able to at the time. Younger children are redirected and teachers help with expression of feelings. Our goal at Mini-Skool is to create an environment where children are free to work out their own conflicts and to express their feelings in a positive way. Our primary focus is to ensure health and safety first, encourage respect for others and respect for property.

How will I know how my child is adjusting and how they spend their day?

If your child is old enough to talk to you, we have no doubt that they will tell you all about their day filled with many fun learning experiences, friends and accomplishments. Mini-Skool believes that the key to quality child care is parent involvement and communication. We encourage this by providing daily/weekly electronic reports through the hi mama app. Our professional directors and teachers welcome your questions or concerns and will always get back to you in a timely manner.
